Looks like we won't see live-action versions of Mireille Bouquet and Kirika Yumura anytime soon.
Starz CEO Chris Albrecht, in an interview with Multichannel News about a number of Starz properties in development, admitted that the live-action remake of the Noir anime (which is a Starz project) is "in a bit of a holding pattern."
The live-action version of the anime about a pair of female assassins is produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Josh Donen of TV's Spartacus, but the trio is currently preoccupied with the third season of that show. "The production challenges on [Noir] just became sort of enormous," said Albrecht, "so we've hit the pause button on that."
A live-action Noir would mark the first time an anime series had been adapted for live-action TV for English-speaking audiences. It wouldn't, however, be the first time an anime had received a live-action English-language adaptation, period -- although the field for such adaptations so far consists of only a few titles. Among them are the lamentable Dragonball: Evolution, the eye-filling Speed Racer and the remarkable Blood: The Last Vampire.
Here's hoping the pause button isn't kept pressed on Noir for too long. That list could use some more company!
