Anime Review Princess Jellyfish

You know the classic formula for a love story: boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl. But this is 2012, and so we need a new twist on the old story. How about: girl lives in insular all-girl environment, girl meets and admires other girl, girl discovers other girl is in fact a boy? And that's just for openers?

Such is, very loosely, the premise and setup for Princess Jellyfish, which FUNimation saw fit to provide for us in a hybrid BD/DVD edition with tricked out with an English dub and all manner of other extras. After premiering the show on their site via their simulcasting agreement with Noitamina (the animation programming block in Japan that has been to anime what, say, 120 Minutes was to MTV generally back in the day), fan enthusiasm for the show was such that they licensed and released it domestically.

Despite being released a little earlier this year, this series was more than worth sitting down with for a extraordinary detailed review. It made our list of the Best New Anime Streaming Premieres Of 2011, our list of Best Anime Romances, and has shown up on countless other retrospectives across the web.

Now read the full-length review and find out exactly what all the shouting has been about.
