New Feature Light Novels And Their Relation to Anime

Over the last couple of decades, one of Japan's publishing genres has also become one of its biggest sources for anime adaptations. Everything from Haruhi Suzumiya (shown here; compare prices) to Rental Magica have been inspired by "light novels" -- those short, easy-to-read books targeted mainly at younger audiences.

Aside from serving as the inspiration to various anime, light novels have been slowly making their way into English for various key titles (Haruhi, for instance). The market for them isn't as broad as anime itself, in part because fans of an anime don't always also become fans of the book behind it. (I've noticed that something of the same thing happens with big-budget superhero movies: they draw a large audience, but most of that audience doesn't go and dig up the comic.)

The range of light-novel-inspired titles for anime is broad and increasing with each passing year. So for the full rundown, read the feature, and chime in with your comments and favorite light-novel / anime titles below as well.
